(MIAMI BEACH) ANTIQUE SHOW: BOOTH DESIGN

A proposal for an online antiques retailer.

ASSIGNMENT: to create a lounge area in the front hall.

THE GOALS:

To create a cohesive lounge showing the client’s antique inventory.

To illustrate the timelessness of antique furniture: presenting it within a period and outside of a period at the same time.

To build a structure which includes a bar, computer station and lounge area all within 15′x20′.

THE THEMES:

Tamara de Lempicka (Art Deco) Graphic Minimalism.

Mirrors + Reflections

3D /2D Interplay

THE INSPIRATIONS:

These dusty geometric walls are gorgeous. The floors could be painted mostly black, with a stripe / circle of these colors in places. The furniture could be black and white.

A mirrored parallelogram bar, inspired by this handbag. This would be a custom build. Very simple and clean.

It would feel a bit like this structure below, but without a bottom indent:

This booth below is graphic, minimal and compelling. It makes me look twice. Love the mirrored back wall. The iPod station is especially genius. No cords.

A simple back shelf with a large black canvas on it. The name of the company is written on it. With mirrored letters. Like this:

Beautiful 3D forms emerging from the wall. Like this:

These shapes could be in all black, to emphasize the contours.

THE FURNITURE:

Black and white only to create a stark, strong visual. Like a painting.

Art Deco from the clients collection:

It will be set up as a 1920′s cocktail lounge. Tables and chairs, armoires at the walls. chandeliers hanging over the tables. Music.

THE MUSIC:

European music from the 20′s and 30′s: Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, etc. played on an iPod photograph like this:
